You got FREE what?!

I'm branching out into the survey market. Have you done online surveys? I haven't joined any that I get paid for. What's been your experience with paid survey companies? I'm all for freebies and I've found 3 super easy survey sites that handout product like candy on a parade firetruck!

1) Influenster- answer questions, give reviews, build your score. The higher your score the more products you'll receive. They give vox boxes randomly filled with content based on season, company, or your survey/review answers. *Btw that vox box link is a friend of mine, check her out!* But you have to check your email- opportunities on boxes are timed! I missed my first box opportunity by 2 hours :(

2) Crowdtap- this is lots of questions...I know, very time consuming. But the sponsors are not average freebie companies. Another point system earned by questions. I haven't actually received products because my points are low,  but my understanding is they offer either samples for review or enough product for a small party then you give feedback based on you and your friends experience using the product (think beer/liquor, hotels, food, juice, tampons).

3) GetItFree- just what it says. They post who's got what to sample, you add it to your cart, enter your shipping info, and get it free. Sometimes there's questions, sometimes you just have to check your email to confirm. They've got clothes, p&g brands (comes with questions when redeeming), appliances, food, healthcare, beauty products, etc. This one is super easy and fast!! Once you start applying for things and you wait the allotted shipping time, you should be getting things as often as daily if you're persistent in redeeming.

Also, watch Facebook. Several companies do Friday freebies for anyone who likes their Facebook page! Do you know other easy sites making these offers? What has been your experience?

Italian Eggplant

Let me tell you about dinner tonight. I bought an eggplant the other day with no plans for it, just simply because I like eggplant. So I searched pinterest and decided to make my own rendition of some things I saw. Thus my tasty dinner!
Take note, I'm only feeding me so this portion is really small. I'm only using half the eggplant, the other half will be dinner another night.

Italian Eggplant

1/2 of a small eggplant, 1/2 in slices
1 tomato, 4-5 slices
1/4 small sweet onion, thin slices
Shredded mozzarella
Pesto- I used jarred

Salt eggplant slices and let them sit at least 15 minutes on a paper towel to let some of the water out. You don't want soggy eggplant. Preheat oven or toaster oven  to 450 (I used toaster oven, again its just me though, no need to waist electric).

Heat griddle medium high and spray with non stick spray. Grill eggplant 3-4 minutes on each side or until desired doneness.

Grill onion slices until slightly soft and brown.

I briefly grilled the tomato slices just to soften them, not cook them. Your choice.

Build a tower: eggplant, smear on pesto to desired taste, tomato, onion, mozzarella (as cheesy as you like).

Bake until cheese melts, then broil until cheese is toasty. This shouldn't take more than 5 minutes total in oven.

Enjoy! I know I did :)

New Years Resolutions

I swear December was only a week long! So much happened to me in 2013 that it was just a whirlwind. I became a Scentsy consultant in February, broke up with my fiance of 8 years in April, lost 80 lbs between January and September, lost one of my 2 jobs in April, took on my most trying child for work yet in July, bought a brand new car in my name (no cosigner!!) in September, and moved into an apartment on my own in October. Phew! This year may seem like vacation after all that.
I finally gained answers in 2013 to two years worth of questions. But now I have new questions for 2014, questions about me.

1) Grow as a person. I'm 25 and haven't been single since my sophomore year of high school. I don't know who I am as an individual, I've always had someone attached to care for and put first, be it my sister, boyfriend, or roommates. What do i enjoy doing? Am i really that shy and quiet or have i always just stood behind someone loud and boisterous? What's the single life about? I know I can handle it, but is it for me? Where do you meet people? I don't fall for the whole online dating scene. So one of my biggest goals for this year is to grow out of my shy comfort zone, leave my apartment, and get out and meet people. Both guys and new friends, I learned who my real friends are when I left my ex. People bring relationships and experiences, and I'm thinking I might not hate people so much if I met the right ones. All my relationships that have lasted, friend wise, have been ones I've personally made, not the ones I made through others, and I think that makes a difference.

2) Grow my Scentsy business. I've heard it takes 2-3 years to get ahead in any business. I've definitely got my money back from Scentsy, but now I want a steady income, even if its a small amount. This will tie into my first resolution- leaving my shyness behind and meeting new people. I also need to put more effort and some money into it than I did last year. Takes money to make money, right? My first step with this is to attend spring sprint in February!

3) Lose another 30 lbs, tone and tighten. After the first 80 kind of fell off, I'm hoping this won't be to hard. And I have 12 months to do this. Piece of cake...or no cake :(

4) Find a better paying, but enjoyable, job. This resolution depends on how 2) goes. If Scentsy grows well and I can count on a decent income, I'll have no need for another job. I love the girls I care for and would hate to give them up for money, but the truth is, medicaid doesn't pay me enough to care for these kids. And that's sad.

5) Travel. I want to go to at least 1 place this year that I've never been. And I say that broadly, like a new town/city/state, not a facility. My ex was a homebody, so if one of our families wasn't there, we didn't go. Which meant we always went home where our parents are, my extended family was to far for him, we saw them once in 8 years. Before him, and at the beginning of dating him when I didn't think it was serious, I seriously considered joining the military, just to travel. But I couldn't leave once I was with him. Now I'm in no shape to join and not sure I want to with our current government. But regardless, I have a massive travel bug that can finely stop itching.

This year is a whole new lifestyle for me, I plan to take advantage of it! New doors to open, new questions I haven't found yet, and hopefully a better, wiser me. I get to make mistakes with no one to catch me and fall back on, learn new things, do new things, and just grow. I love ya Drake, but no new friends isn't gonna cut it this year ;)

Have you set goals this year? Do you think they're realistic? Will they grow you as a person or grow your family?

Paraffin Treatment for Soft Hands With Scentsy Wax

Merry Christmas and Happy New Years to you!! I'm sure you're in the midst of holiday parties and gatherings. That's a lot of handshaking and hugs going on. After attending a Christmas party with my Scentsy team and group members, I received a few new ideas that my fellow consultants use. No worries, this comes full circle.

So you have wax in your Scentsy warmer that no longer has a scent left. Happens all the time. Rather than throwing out that wax, try a paraffin wax treatment for your hands, feet or face. Scentsy uses paraffin in their bars so its a two for one deal! A great scent in your home and soft hands with the leftovers!
saint nick, Scentsy, Santa, candle warmer, Christsmas

Just warm your leftover wax, dip your hands in, let wax harden, then rub or peel off the wax. Its that simple! You can warm the wax right in your Scentsy warmer, it won't get hot enough to burn you (another reason to love Scentsy). Then pour it into a dish that you can put your hand/foot in. Now go shake some hands- see, full circle people.

Scentsy Christmas Recipes

I've been MIA again :/ Sometimes life just bogs you down, you know? Still adjusting to life on my own, it's quite nice!! I've got some food recipes in the works so look out for those over the next few weeks. But today, some Scentsy recipes are on the agenda.

I finally got around to ordering my holiday scents. I know what you're thinking- yes I'm a consultant, but I don't keep stock on hand, just what I'm going to use. My favorite is Cozy Fireside and Clementine Clove (November Scent of the Month).  But I also found some new favorites when I mixed the scents. I like food smells, so of course Christmas cookies is my list topper.

To mix scents and make your own recipes, just put a cube of each scent in your warmer or 1/2 cube if using a plug in or you only want a hint of a certain scent. Let me know what your favorite scent combos are, you might just see them here our on my Facebook page.

Sincerely Scent- Christmas Cards

It's that time of year!! I love the holiday season. I'm holding off decorating for Christmas at least until the week of Thanksgiving and it's absolutely KILLING me! I know I'm not alone in this boat, heck Wal Mart put out Christmas stuff before Halloween.

So I got to thinking....what can I tell you about Scentsy that isn't the norm for their holiday sales flyers. Duh! Sincerely Scent. Never heard of it? Scentsy started Sincerely Scent a year or two ago, so it's still a baby in business years. You go on the site and order personalized cards, for any occasion, and the company ships them right to your recipient. All hands off for you! And the best part? You pick a scent, from the Scentsy Favorites collection, to be added in the form of a rubber stamp attached to the card. Add photos, personal messages, and a digital signature. You can even place orders up to a year before they need to be sent so you can forget about them. You'll be just as surprised by the thank you call as your loved one was by receiving the card :)

Cards are printed on 110-pound white card stock with a HP Indigo 7000 digital press. They are 4.96"x6.875" and mailed in white scent-barrier envelopes to ensure fragrance longevity. Toasted Bruschetta

I'm torn between telling you this is an appetizer or that it's a meal. Typically, bruschetta is eaten as an appetizer. But I made this by itself for dinner one night, with leftovers for lunch the next day. Either way you choose to serve it, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

I browsed through numerous bruschetta recipes before deciding to create my own. The vinegarette isn't usually bottled dressing. Typically, garlic bread isn't used, at all. And I added the cheese because I like cheese. Don't judge my choices until you've tasted my flavors... If you don't like it, go make a pb&j sandwich. :p

10 Tips to Ease Your Moving Day

Moving, packing, tips, separation, life, advice, blog

It's Moving Week!! Finally, I can't stress how excited and anxious I am to begin and end some chapters in my life. Like crazy excited!!!! So I'd thought I'd give some tips not only for packing and moving but for separating and untangling lives. (Warning: language! I'm stressed over this move, so the nitty gritty is my uncensored life, people).

For those of you who don't know, I ended a 7 year relationship in April with a guy whom I'd been engaged to for 5 of those years. The relationship had gone stagnant, we barely spoke and had to pull teeth to spend time together. I was over it and had been for quite some time. But due to poor planning on my part and the loss of a job, I was left a sitting duck in a house with my now ex and our roommates. It's been a stressful 6 months but I'm finally to a point where I can get my own place. So this weekend I move into what I'd like to refer to as a quaint little apartment :)

Life, separation, packing, moving, move, moving day, tips, blog
How my life is feeling about now...and how my house is looking!
  1.  Always know your circle. I am still learning this, and it's a hard lesson, I promise. But you have to look at those around you- are they helping your life in any way; are they adding joy and happiness to your daily life? Or is this someone who comes to you for information and the next thing you know your personal bizz is splashed across the enquirer? If people are only coming to you when they need something, going behind your back after you confide in them, or are just a total downer to your daily being, it's time to take inventory and start making cuts to everyone and everything lowering your profit margin. You'll know your true friends, they'll want to go out and do things with you, not interrogate your lifestyle.
  2. Take notice of important things that you brought into the household or relationship. Whether it's a divorce, a breakup, or just moving away from your roommates, make sure there are clear boundaries when it comes to your belongings. Nothing worse than someone raising hell because you took their favorite spoon (real life here people).
  3. And with that, pick your battles. Do you really need that spoon? I mean really, c'mon. If they are going to fight over something stupid wait til they realize how much stuff is actually yours and not theirs.
  4. Pick your bitch moments. I've held my tongue and closed my eyes and ears for months now so that when this week finally arrived, it would be as civil as possible. No need to have a bunch of hostile guys holding grudges breaking your stuff as they 'help' you move. Or worse, refusing to help.
  5. Label those boxes and use plenty of duck tape. Write what's in them and/or what room they go in. If its stuff that you need right away, like toiletries or food, write that on there as well. And mark as fragile!
  6. Garbage bags are perfect for odd shaped items, clothes on hangers, hangers, blankets, anything really.  Use them to your advantage, if you cant find boxes for free somewhere, spend $3 on a box of garbage bags and make do. So long as it's not fragile, it fits in my book. (Take note, I'm not moving but across town, so I don't need a u-haul and bubble wrap.)
  7.  Purge! Clothes that don't fit or you haven't wore in months, toss it. Ratty shoes, toss. 10 random, partially filled shampoo bottles, combine and toss empty bottles. When I dug through closets and junk areas, I found so much stuff that hadn't been touched in years! It definitely got tossed. My garbage man is going to hate me Friday morning. Don't be a hoarder, you don't actually need that stuff.
  8.  Have a moving day plan. Know what's being moved in what vehicle and whose driving it. Know when something or someone is supposed to arrive. Have a rental truck if need be, and make sure you rented it for the correct number of days. Since I'm going such a short distance, in the morning I'm loading down my car for several trips. Then in the afternoon, the guys are driving over the furniture on the trailer. And don't forget to eat and hydrate!!
  9. Change your address. The post office will reroute your mail for free, just fill out the form. Mine even gives you coupons when you ask for the form. Have a list of all creditors, doctors, family, businesses, anyone who sends you mail and notify them of your new place. This is easy to forget, yet simple to do.
  10.  Don't stress. Stress won't make anything better, it's like worrying, it just causes unnecessary problems that weren't there to start with. Refer back to 3 and 4. Just do it. This what you've wanted and waited for. Be excited, start that new chapter in your book like it's the best thing that's ever happened to you. I know your heartbroken, but everything happens for a reason and soon something will fill that void and you'll forget why you even stressed to start with.
That's probably the most random list of moving tips ever, but they are all things that I have been faced with during my move. Ladies, your stronger than you think. And gents, well, for now I'm bitter with you but you'll survive and move on too. What tips do you guys have for me that have helped you in a breakup-move out type situation??

Scentsy Fall/Winter 2013 Overview

Oh wow, guys! 3 weeks snuck by without me touching my computer and I have nothing to show for it. Always a day late and a dollar short, isn't that life for you?!

I wanted to do a several bigger posts for the new Scentsy Fall/Winter catalog but since we are already a month in, I'm gonna hit you with the highlights...or my favorites, anyway. Obviously, there's old warmers and scents returning, so you'll recognize those. If you missed my post about discontinued scents, click here.

scentsy, scents, heartbreaker, business casual, simply basil

Heartbreaker is new to the Romance line up. Its described as "rich woods, green juniper and a touch of tobacco". When I first read the description, I thought pipe tobacco. But when I smelled it, it smells like polo black (mens cologne), which is a familiar smell to me. Business casual is featured in the Scentsy Man section. It's "exotic cardamom, intriguing caraway, lively pepper, and fragrant woods with a powdery wisp of orange blossom". I LOVE the smell of cardamom, so this was a must get bar for me. Simply Basil is new to the Simply Scentsy line. It's just that, basil. It reminds me of my mom, my kitchen, and Italian food.

As this is the holiday season, these are going to be top sellers. Everyone wants their home to be comfy cozy with scents that evoke memories, and that's just what these do.

scentsy, warmers, fall winter 2013, wickless candles, lampshade, gallery, gallery frame, starry night, blue diamond, cream tulip
There are sooooo many new warmers, and everything is beautiful. These are my top picks. There are four different lampshade warmers, two colors in each shape I pictured above. They glow so bright! And add a touch of elegance that the other warmers don't seem to have. The Starry Night frame is one of three Van Goh frames that have been added, along with several other new styles, to the Gallery Collection.

What do you guys think? Do you like how the new line looks? Scentsy really stepped up the game with this catalog season...makes me curious as to what the spring line holds!

Scentsy Discontinued Scents- Spring/Summer 2013

I know I'm a bit late, but I just wanted you all to know that these scents are no longer available in the new Fall/Winter 2013 catalog. However, some of the spring scents that weren't discontinued have been added into the categories and will be available as of September 1st ( I know, I know, I'm late).

Also, just wanted to late you know- if you are looking for more information than what I post here or if I haven't posted in awhile, please feel free to like my FB page or browse my Scentsy site. I can't do posts from my phone because the typing would come out funky but I can update my Facebook page, and do so frequently. But any big, important posts will be done here.

Black Bean Tostada!

black beans, tostada, tortilla, turkey, ground turkey, recipes, rotel, mexican, food

Taking a Scentsy break tonight. It's a creative foodie kind of evening around here. I cooked up this AMAZING tostada and the roomie whipped up some of his famous stir fry. OMG was dinner ever tasty! This is currently my favorite thing I've ever created. Black beans, rotel, ground turkey on a toasted tortilla, what could go wrong? Not a darn thing. :)

So this idea came to me after making a bag of dried black beans today. They spent all day in the crock pot and I couldn't just bag them all up and freeze them. I had to have some! So I started going through my pantry and came across some Mexican-y flavors that mix well. My poor hamster had to get her lazy butt up and work that wheel tonight.

black beans, croc pot, dried beans, soak overnight, recipes

1. Fry up some ground turkey. I had two pre-made, frozen patties that I sauteed in 2T of oil.
2. I added one can of rotel, 1 1/2c black beans, 1/2c pureed black beans. I eyeballed some seasonings to my taste buds liking: garlic powder, s&p, curry, cumin, and chili powder.

turkey, ground turkey, black beans, beans, rotel, recipes, mexican
3. While all of that is sauteing, I heated my oven to 500 and toasted up some tortillas, just long enough to brown them on each side. Make sure you poke holes, with a fork, in the tortillas before putting them in the oven so that they won't get any bubbles.

4. Last, I just spooned on the bean mixture, drizzled some ranch (my bad habit) and sprinkled with cilantro.

Let me know if you try this, I'm curious to see how others may change it up!

Scentsy- Trends for the Fall

Can I just tell you, at the rate this week is going, it might end better than Christmas!! Today, I came home to a Scentsy order, which is like Christmas in itself. I love opening those boxes even though its all going to someone else.Let me back track. Yesterday, I straightened out school which was good and bad. Bad because I can't afford to finish my bachelor's degree right now :( Good because after talking with an counselor and sending some emails, there's a good possibility that I stumbled upon an associates degree somewhere along my long list of classes. Waiting on email responses to override some higher level classes for lower levels and then I'm officially a degree holder!!! After that several hours of waiting in line then finally seeing a counselor I proceeded onto a leasing agency. I checked out a small apartment and filled out the paperwork. I received the call today that I am approved!!! Now I just need to sign a lease and I can move in next weekend. You have no idea how thrilled I am to finally have things turning around after months of thinking my guardian angel had been laid off.

success, what is success, success stories

OK. I'm stepping off my high horse now. I had to ride the wave for a glorious minute ;)

Computer problems = short posts

It's been a good week since I've posted!! Sorry, my computer is being ugly and it's a pain to write on my phone. I just had a huge 'life happenings' update and when I answered a text it completely deleted it :(
So rather than fight my phone, I'll just keep it short. Until I can get the computer to play nice, watch my Facebook for my personal Scentsy sales and updates or my Scentsy site for shopping and corporate sales.

scentsy, blog, independent consultant

I am still job and apartment hunting. Any pointers? If you're in Greenville, NC and know of any place hiring or asking cheap rent, help a girl out!
School starts back next week! Yes, I'm the nerd who's excited about school, lol. Finally getting around to finishing my bachelors, then I think I'll be done for awhile.
Until next time. Is there anything you would like to hear about from me??

How to Make Alfredo Sauce - And Other Recipes

I'm hungry. And I've been craving something alfredo-y for about two weeks now. But given my current financial situation, I'm forced to live like a broke college kid, except I don't eat ramen. But buy one get one free hot dogs I found at Food Lion a few weeks ago have been a hit (note the sarcasm). So I thought today, I'll indulge, or rather, let you all indulge, in my alfredo recipe that I'm always asked for. And because I'm not actually cooking today, just writing, please note that the pictures are supplements found through a Google image search.

alfredo, alfredo sauce, alfredo sauce recipe, recipes for alfredo sauce
I'm going to give you the basics first, which some of you foodie's will think is dumb, but it's the biggest question I get about this type of recipe. Then, I'll divulge into how to make it into alfredo sauce, cheese sauce for mac and cheese, and enchilada sauce.

Some side notes: Buy cheese by the block and shred it yourself, it tastes slightly different than bagged cheese, however, I often use bagged cheese to save time. It can sometimes leave sauces slightly gritty. I more often than not, use garlic powder as opposed to actual garlic cloves. I think the flavor is more potent, use your own judgement. I like spicy food, so using rotel with chili's and a jalapeno or two (with seeds) is of no issue to me. But for the sake of the people I feed (friends, roommates, family, etc) I tend not to burn their tongues off. Milk will stick and burn in a pan, so be sure to stir frequently!

Milk Gravy

  • 16 0z heavy whipping cream or 1/2 and 1/2 (the smaller container)
  • 2 T butter
  • 2 T flour
Melt the butter in a sauce pan or dip skillet at medium heat. My stove goes numbers 1-9, I use around a 5-6. When the butter is bubbly but not disappeared, add the flour, stirring until all the butter is absorbed and it turns a light caramel color. This is called a roux. Do not let the butter/flour mix burn! Add in the cream and stir.
roux, roux recipes, a roux, alfredo, alfredo sauce, butter and flour
Easy peasy, right?! Now for the fun part, creating this milk gravy into something worth eating. Play with it! The three add ins I'm giving are the ones I use the most. Swap the cream for milk and up your portions and you have the start of a cream based soup (or leave the cream for extra decadence). Or add different cheeses to change the flavor of the sauce bases I'm giving you. The flavor at this stage is easily manipulated into whatever you are craving.

Alfredo Sauce

  • At least 16 oz of shredded Parmesan cheese ( I use probably twice that because I love the flavor)
  • 1t nutmeg
  • 1t black or white pepper
  • 1-2T garlic powder (more or less for your taste)
  • 1-2T onion powder (more or less for your taste)
Add in all the seasonings, leaving out the cheese, to the milk gravy. Stir and let bubble. I usually let it bubble for 2-3 minutes.
Turn down to low heat or simmer and let it get almost to the thickness you desire. I like mine really thick, others like it runny, however it will thicken as it cools, so keep that in mind if you serve family style rather than directly off the stove.
When it reaches your almost desired thickness, add in the cheese and stir until melted. Remove from heat once cheese is fully incorporated.
It's ready to serve! I've made nachos, fettuccine, and fondue with this alfredo recipe. Toss in chicken, shrimp, veggies, and pasta for your basic fettuccine alfredo meal.

Mac and Cheese

  • ~16 oz shredded cheddar or colby jack (sharp cheddar is normal mac and cheese, colby jack tastes like cracker barrel mac and cheese or add your choice or combo)
  • 1t ground dry mustard
  • 1t nutmeg
  • 1t black or white pepper
  • 1-2T garlic powder (more or less for your taste)
  • 1-2T onion powder (more or less for your taste)
Follow the directions, same as before. I've been known to add broccoli, ham, or chopped hot dogs to my mac and cheese. But no matter how you mix it, it's comfort food!

Enchilada Sauce

  • 1-2 cans Rotel (pick your flavor)
  • 1 white onion, diced
  • 1 jalepeno, seeded and minced (optional)
  • 1-2T garlic powder (more or less for your taste)
  • 1t cumin powder
  • 1t curry powder
  • 1t paprika
  • White cheese- I've gone back and forth, sometimes adding cheese, sometimes not.
When making the roux for the milk gravy, toss in your onions and jalapeno before adding the flour. Let them cook until almost soft, but still have some body to them. Then add flour and proceed with milk gravy.
Add in seasonings and rotel and let gravy bubble for a few minutes (3-5) on simmer while stirring occasionally. If you wish to add cheese, do so after the sauce has heated back through, removing it from heat/stove once the cheese is blended.

Again, use your personal tastes on how spicy you want this, taking into account what you will be adding the sauce to, as well. I pour it over tortillas rolled with shredded chicken, onions, and refried beans inside. Or over a plate of tortilla chips for easy nachos. Adjust your portions, don't allow the gravy to thicken, and toss in some shredded chicken, black beans and corn for an easy mexican soup.
